History of Mortima

history.PNG

The watch brand Mortima was made by Établissements Cattin (1926 – 1988), established in Morteau, Doubs region of France. The company was founded and owned by Emile Cattin (1904 - 1979).

Emile Cattin was a highly motivated and innovating man. By the end of the 1930’s, Cattin was already selling over 30.000 watches a year. By 1960, Cattin produced nearly 2 million watches a year and was awarded the l'Oscar de l'Exportation, by the French government. At the most Cattin housed 360 employees, with good salary and benefits that were not common at the time.

After Emile Cattin’s death, the company failed to deal with the 1980's quartz watch revolution. The company was therefore sold in 1988, and the buyers went bankrupt a couple of years later.
