History of Cattin & Cie SA.
Mortima was designed and made by the watch manufacturer Cattin & Cie SA (1929 – 1988), established in Morteau, Doubs region of France. The company was founded and owned by Emile Cattin (1904 - 1979).
Emile Cattin was a highly motivated and innovating man. By the end of the 1930’s, Cattin was already selling over 30.000 watches a year. By 1960, Cattin produced nearly 2 million watches a year and was awarded the l'Oscar de l'Exportation, by the French government. At the most Cattin housed 360 employees, with good salary and benefits that were not common at the time.
After Emile Cattins death, Cattin & Cie as many other manufacturers, struggled with the 1980's quartz crisis. The family-owned company was sold to Kiplé in 1988, unfortunately Kiplé went bankrupt a couple of years later.
